Our Method

Our Core Values: Creativity, Community, Excellence
Creativity
At our school you will find students composing their own music, improvising, jamming, discovering new music, and debating the finer points of musical opinion- fully encouraged by their instructors, who might just jump in the jam session themselves!

Community
From our regular showcase performances, to the peer-driven Woodshed Workshop, to grabbing a practice room only to be pulled into a jazz jam one room over, our courses offer constant opportunity to meet and play with other musicians at all levels. Our musicianship community will encourage you in your playing, keep you accountable in your growth, and teach you as just much as- or more than- your instructor will.

Excellence
Each of our offerings will meet you where you are- and then push you much further. Our standard is growth, exploration, curiosity, and constant striving to improve, and we welcome musicians at every level who want to pursue musical excellence.

The Teaching Session
All of our courses happen in sessions, which are like academic semesters. The fall, winter, and spring sessions are typically 11 weeks. Summer sessions are shorter. Each session is followed by a couple weeks of break.

This schedule keeps all our members and instructors in the same rhythm, working hard for a few months, enjoying a well-deserved rest, and then charging back in.

Our Membership Model
Everyone who studies with us pays for a membership. This simple tuition plan is paid monthly, at one of four different levels, and secures the member a course of study of their choosing. We format our enrollment this way to reflect the fact that our students are more than just customers; they are active members in an engaging musicianship community.
